Hidden Persuader
Come all the way from George Washington University
she is not even especially striking—Western women
have been so badly de-feminised. This one is somewhat
flat-chested, with commonplace features, freckles,
and a straight, masculine gait. Yet, in the middle of
her learned paper, without explanation or warning,
she suddenly flashes a smooth, white leg through
the slit in her long cotton dress, while she speaks
seriously about cultural creativity and social
transformation. It's that bold, bare leg,
visible only to those who're more attentive
to the subtext, that's more eloquent and vocal
than anything she actually says. The real seminar
